It’s wonderful to connect with you again today. I always enjoy sharing information to help you in your daily life, so thank you for joining me…..
Are you feeling constantly on edge or exhausted, like there’s nothing left in the tank?
Do you find yourself rushing to complete tasks, feeling like you’re running in circles and never truly getting ahead?
If so, you’re not alone.
This often means you’re running on nervous energy. Your nervous system tirelessly supports you through stress, whether it’s meeting deadlines, managing kids’ schedules, or handling a flood of daily emails.
Your nervous system helps you navigate through all these challenges. However, when it becomes overwhelming, hitting the reset button and calming your nervous system is crucial. This enables you to regain control over your life, making you feel more in charge and balanced.
Think of it like resetting a computer when it’s not functioning properly—sometimes, we need to do the same with our nervous system.
Today, we’ll explore ways to reset your nervous system and regain that sense of calm and control.
But first, what is your nervous system?
Think of it as the body’s command centre—a complex network of nerves that runs everything from digestion to heartbeat, movement, energy levels, and even moods. It coordinates a vast array of functions in your body, and sometimes it needs support. When life’s pressures build up, you may feel overwhelmed and find your coping skills stretched thin.
That’s when life can start to feel unmanageable.
A recent client told me, “My nervous system’s fried.” This was an intriguing comment because, typically, clients describe a range of symptoms. As we delved into her situation, it became
clear she was constantly worried about her family, ageing parents, health, job, and future. These ongoing worries were depleting her energy, creating an inflammatory cycle that exacerbated her symptoms.
This made me wonder how many others might be experiencing similar feelings without realising they’re pushing their nervous systems to the brink. That’s why I want to address this topic today.
Symptoms can include:
- Feeling anxious / overwhelmed,
- Experiencing irritability /quick to anger,
- Struggle to concentrate
- Experiencing memory issues,
- Headaches,
- Muscle tension, or
- Having trouble sleeping – whether it’s falling asleep or staying asleep
- Restlessness in bed
- Fatigue
- Weight gain around the waistline, and
- Recurrent infections
These can be signs you are running on nervous energy and need a reboot
So, what can you do to reset your nervous system? Here are three effective techniques you can start using right away:
1. Grounding
The first technique I recommend is grounding.
Grounding is about resetting yourself and finding a quiet space. It’s like “stopping to smell the roses,” as the old saying goes. Find a serene spot where you can disconnect from the rush of life.
This could mean walking barefoot on the grass, being in nature, or just finding a peaceful place to pause.
Focus on your surroundings—what can you see, hear, smell, and feel? Instead of dwelling on your to-do list, immerse yourself in the present moment.
Take deep, slow breaths: inhale for a count of four, hold for a moment, exhale for a count of four, and hold again before repeating. Do this for about 60 seconds, and you’ll notice your heart rate slowing and a sense of calm settling in. This is a great practice to incorporate during a lunch break or while waiting for your kids at their activities.
2. Incorporate movement into your daily life
Daily movement doesn’t have to mean hitting the gym.
It can be gentler activities like yoga, tai chi, stretching exercises, walking, or swimming. The goal is to move your body, get your circulation going, and release endorphins, the feel-good hormones. Even 10 to 20 minutes daily can significantly reduce stress levels and enhance your well-being.
3. Medicinal herbs
Many traditional herbs have therapeutic effects on the nervous system and help the body adapt to stress. I often recommend rhodiola, ashwagandha (also known as withania), lion’s mane, rehmannia, oats, chamomile, and lavender. You can find these herbs in teas, herbal formulations, or powders to add to your drinks or smoothies. It’s essential to seek professional advice from a qualified herbalist to find the herbs that best suit your needs.

Ready to kick start Gut Health? Book a Call!
This is how gut microbes can influence weight!
Probiotics can help you gain weight or lose weight by interacting with our genetics, food and metabolism.
And yes, I did say lose or gain weight……..
Firstly, let me explain that the trillions of microbes in the gut need to be varied, meaning that there should be a large variety of species. There are many different species (or breeds) of microbes, and they all have their place in aiding health — the more variety and balance, the better health results.
Back to the weight loss or weight gain issue….
Do you eat yogurt and berries for breakfast? Thinking that it’s helping you lose weight?
Well, Lactobacillus acidophilus (like the species found in yoghurt) has been connected to weight gain.
I am not saying throw your yoghurt and berries in the bin. Instead, I am suggesting looking at the overall picture. If Lactobacillus acidophilus is the predominant micro-organism of the gut, then weight gain can result.
It is about the variety of species of gut microbes. Imagine if we only have trained german shepherd guard dogs in the world. It may be a safe world, but I am sure that other breeds may be more suitable as a family pet.
While Lactobacillus acidophilus is associated with weight gain, other Lactobacillus species correlate with weight loss.
Species like Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus gasseri, and Bifidobacteria animalis have been found to support weight loss.
Want to lose weight?
Look at your gut flora to support your goal.
Tests can be performed to identify the predominant species of the gut, and specific species can be utilised to support weight changes.
