Do you feel trapped in a cycle of battling brain fog and struggling with low energy levels every day?
Many of my clients share these feelings, often expressing a sense of imbalance and frustration.
They push through each day, lacking the energy and vibrancy they long for, constantly feeling like they’re just trying to survive until the end.
Today, let’s explore why you might be experiencing this and discuss some tips for breaking free from this cycle of fatigue and reclaiming your vitality.
My tip for you today is that your energy, vibrancy, fatigue, brain fog, and forgetfulness could be linked to your gut health!
Have you ever considered how gut health affects your feelings and thoughts?
Think about phrases like “I have a gut instinct” or “I get butterflies in my stomach when anxious”. These sayings highlight how our gut connects to our emotions and cognition. Often called our second brain, the balance or imbalance of microbes in our gut can impact how we feel and think.
For example, I had a client experiencing fatigue, moodiness, and brain fog, struggling to remember the names of friends and colleagues. She feared she might be developing early dementia, feeling trapped in her daily struggles.
After investigation, we uncovered that she had gut dysbiosis—an imbalance of gut microbes affecting her mental and physical health. I worked with her to adjust her diet and support her beneficial gut microbes.
She regained her energy and mental clarity. She felt clear-headed again, waking up with energy and enthusiasm. Instead of dreading the day, she looked forward to it.
Even after a busy workday, she had the energy to tackle household tasks. Her memory improved, and overall, she felt fantastic!
Would you like to feel this way, too?
Let’s investigate your gut health…..
The trillions of microbes in your gut are essential in absorbing nutrients like iron and help manufacture vitamin B12 and vitamin K. These nutrients are crucial for energy, memory, concentration, and detoxification.
As well as aiding nutrient absorption, gut microbes produce neurotransmitters such as serotonin, the feel-good hormone influencing your mood, energy levels, and sleep. It is estimated that up to 80% of serotonin is produced in the gut.
Also, gut microbes support your immune system and help regulate blood sugar levels. A healthy microbial balance can reduce sugar cravings and subsequent energy crashes. In doing so can help improve mental clarity, giving you more sustained energy throughout the day.
Can you see how a balanced gut can significantly enhance your energy and clarity?

This is how gut microbes can influence weight!
Probiotics can help you gain weight or lose weight by interacting with our genetics, food and metabolism.
And yes, I did say lose or gain weight……..
Firstly, let me explain that the trillions of microbes in the gut need to be varied, meaning that there should be a large variety of species. There are many different species (or breeds) of microbes, and they all have their place in aiding health — the more variety and balance, the better health results.
Back to the weight loss or weight gain issue….
Do you eat yogurt and berries for breakfast? Thinking that it’s helping you lose weight?
Well, Lactobacillus acidophilus (like the species found in yoghurt) has been connected to weight gain.
I am not saying throw your yoghurt and berries in the bin. Instead, I am suggesting looking at the overall picture. If Lactobacillus acidophilus is the predominant micro-organism of the gut, then weight gain can result.
It is about the variety of species of gut microbes. Imagine if we only have trained german shepherd guard dogs in the world. It may be a safe world, but I am sure that other breeds may be more suitable as a family pet.
While Lactobacillus acidophilus is associated with weight gain, other Lactobacillus species correlate with weight loss.
Species like Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus gasseri, and Bifidobacteria animalis have been found to support weight loss.
Want to lose weight?
Look at your gut flora to support your goal.
Tests can be performed to identify the predominant species of the gut, and specific species can be utilised to support weight changes.
